Boy, did my attempt at blogging really bomb or what? Apparently I'm in such high demand that I can't even demand any alone time at my computer. I'll keep trying...

Mini-Campout

January 5th, 2008

We joined our friends, The Suttles, for a campsite adventure at Erwin park. While they planned to stay overnight, we just came for the s'mores and campfire fun. This was definitely a change of pace from our regular weekend routine. It was dinner time, so we grabbed whatever we had that was on hand - leftover beer bread, some bananas, water and a diet coke.

I took the kids to gather some firewood nearby. Jane Katherine was so excited. "Did you see the garden? Come see the garden!" We all changed course to head over to see the garden... but it was really a cemetery!

Denise has only camped twice before with Sean and both times, locked their keys in the car. This camping experience would also carry on the car trouble curse. The car battery went dead! Luckily, we only live a few miles away from the park, so the jumper cables were there in a jiffy. Once she was revved up we all headed home to rinse off the smoky campfire scent.

Look, Ma! I'm doing it!

I don't know what I'm doing, but at least I'm doing it!

I have one New Year's Resolution for 2008 - one that's truly "new." The other resolutions are all cliche and will go unnamed, but they're probably yours too, so you know what they are. I started a BLOG! Unlike most resolutions we forget about near March, I hope this one sticks.

For me, it will basically be my online scrapbook to jot down those things I want to remember for when I'm old and forgetful. It will be a place to archive a few photos and all the funny things my kids say or do. One day I can say "remember when you blah, blah, blah..." and we can relive a moment in time. Or, I can use it as a blackmail tool for later. Yeah, that's probably what I'll do. I'm sure Tyler will NOT want the pink ballerina photo (age 4) to resurface on his graduation slide show.

So... although this BLOG is for me, I am happy to share it with all of you. Feel free to stop by whenever. It will certainly be a preview of what you can expect to read in the Powell Family Christmas Newsletter next year. For those of you who can't wait until then... stay tuned!
